RE:WILD:IT

Type: Entrepreneurship

Scope: RE:WILD:IT is a business start-up with the idea and aim of developing rewilding projects and documenting the effects of rewilding coupled with existing site data.

RE:WILD:IT is targeting investors and ESG reporting companies for financing, in return for data on biodiversity progression. RE:WILD:IT is conducting baselines, planning and documenting rewilding projects, which are carried out in collaboration with experienced grazing managers, municipalities and foundations. RE:WILD:IT is facilitating fundraising and documentation for reporting.

New income streams for ecosystem restoration

Type: Research and development

Scope:The positive effects of nature restoration according to rewilding principles are today well documented. Yet this optimal form has difficulty gaining widespread acceptance due to a lack of financial basis. The project will investigate financing options, including in particular from companies, partly through sponsorship and especially forms of compensation, including in particular documentation of effects on biodiversity. This is carried out by market analysis and testing of a specific Rewilding project using the Danish Nature Indicator and investigating options for using existing data for ESG reporting.

Ground-Truthing of baselines using drones, near sensing and AI based technology.

Type: Research and development

Scope: The purpose of the project is to develop a practical and cost-effective method for establishing and monitoring baselines for nature restoration and all-year-round grazing. The method is based on linking existing practice and site data with data retrieved using drone and AI technology. Methods and technology must be converted into KnowHow and made available to landowners and practitioners in nature management. A practical and cost-effective method can facilitate baselines to be established to a much greater extent as part of nature restoration projects, as well as support the implementation of biologically optimal all-year-round grazing.

The Rough Guide to LULUCF - and the EU LULUCF regulation.

Type: Educational and Co-creation

Scope: A guide for forest and land managers explaining the IPCC term and concept for Land Use, Land use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) as well as the basics of the handbook of the updated EU LULUCF regulation. For more see Land use sector - European Commission . 

Understanding the LULUCF sector and the LULUCF regulation is a prerequisite for navigating the upcoming opportunities for Carbon removals and Carbon farming in the EU. For more see Climate - European Commission .

Status: Launched and expected to be finalized by June 2025. Seeking funding for review, layout, print and distribution.

Practitioners guide to extensive year round grazing

Type: Educational

Scope: Extensive all-year grazing has in recent years emerged as a good and gentle method of nature management with a view to promoting biodiversity. A number of research reports and general leaflets exist, but there is a need for a Danish handbook for practitioners in extensive all-year grazing. 

The project is simply to perform 3 workshops with a selection of the most experienced grazing and nature managers. Based on a well-founded professional and practical discussion, a handbook is produced aimed at new practitioners, managers, landowners and stakeholders.

Rewilding, hunting and wildlife management.

Type: Facilitation

Scope: Hunting and good wildlife management play an important role in the impact and development of nature. Hunters constitute an important group of stakeholders in relation to nature and nature conservation. 

Rewilding is a paradigm shift in nature conservation. Here, one wants to create dynamics and promote biodiversity. Rewilding and hunting often become a contradictory relationship. This is not the best space for dialogue and understanding. The thesis here is that the two groups need each other in the future in the management of nature in Denmark. The project here will seek to spread knowledge on both sides and facilitate common understanding.

An Amazon Initiative

Type: Initiative and Co-creation

Scope: A precompetitive collaboration of European Importers, Brazilian timber producers and NGO´s around the need for more FSC certified State and Federal Timber Concessions in the Amazon, as a means to preserve rainforest and supplying more timber from responsible sources. 

Launched 2021 with a joint letter to Brazilian environmental and forestry authorities. Followed by a webinar and a public talk at Carrefour du bois in Nantes in 2022. An amazon Initiative also performed the world's first LCA on Brazilian timber, see below. For more go to An Amazon Initiative

LCIA/LCA on Brazilian Hardwood

Type: Research, development and co-creation

Scope: The European energy performance and buildings directive (EPBD) is demanding Environmental Product declaration on Building materials. In order to produce an EPD, data from a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) is required. Such data did not exist (in 2022) on Brazilian hardwood. As such the EPBD would be a market barrier for brazilian timber, even responsibly sourced. A project within An Amazon Initiative with the aim of producing an LCA was initiated. This required retrieving documentation on the Co2 Emissions from a representative timber supply chain from stump via sawmill to port of destination. A Life cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) based on timber from FSC certified State concessions under the Brazilian Forest code was performed in collaboration with TRE-ING .

Lesser Known Timber Species, Yachting for Forests and the FSC Timber Importers Network.

Type: Facilitation and management

Scope: Facilitation of knowledge and communication, and management of two specific projects for Forest Stewardship Council in 2023. The project included networking, capacity building and communication on various FSC topics relevant for the sector. The project was concluded with the production and distribution of 17.000 wood samples consisting of 34 FSC tropical timber species.

Facilitating funding of ecosystem restoration efforts in Chiquitania, Bolivia.

Type: Facilitation

Scope: A specific assignment of finding a sustainable project for philanthropy, benefiting climate and biodiversity, resulted in a 3 year fruitful collaboration between the Fund of Erik Kauffeld, Forest of the World and APCOB bolivia. The project is focused on ecosystem restoration, agroforestry and forest fire mitigation in the biodiverse region of Chiquitana and the Chiquitano people. The project outcome was verified by Preferred By Nature using the Ecosystem Restoration Verification standard for the first time in Bolivia.

Keflico Sustainability Reporting and Science Based Targets.

Type: Facilitation, Management and Co-creation

Scope: As part of heading Sourcing and Compliance in Keflico the first reporting on sustainability was initiated in 2020. The process involved all necessary steps of a proper MRV process. The reporting was performed according to GRI and later COP23 and included a double materiality analysis, stakeholder enquiry and third party verified data of FSC/PEFC certified turnover. Specific UN sustainable development goals were identified for pursuit and reporting. During 3 consecutive years of reporting a carbon footprint management system was implemented and Keflico had climate targets approved by Science Based Targets Initiative.

The Rough Guide to Traceable Certified Forest Products

Type: Educational and Co-creation

Scope: In order to educate, and transform, the timber market on traceability, certification and responsible origin and thus promote FSC certified timber, the idea of a guide for the professional market came in 2002. The first Rough Guide to Traceable Certified Forest products was published in 2003. It was updated twice and was widely distributed.The third version was released and printed in 2011. (ISBN code 1561155) 

Status: Since then the markets evolved on both legality - FLEGT/EUTR and now EUDR and FSC and PEFC certified products are widely available. As such the Rough Guide, finally and thankfully, became outdated.

TRACER ApS and the promotion of FSC certified lesser known timber species (LKTS).

Type: Entrepreneurship

Scope: The company was founded in 2000 (Originally named KoppWood) with the business idea of promoting forest products from sustainably managed forest into the scandinavian market (and thus improving the economy of the sustainably managed forest). The first endeavor was an agency for Precious Woods. This collaboration brought a lot of valuable know-how about lesser known tropical timber species and responsible tropical forest management. 

In 2003 TRACER was established as a timber importer targeting the project market which led to a number of remarkable projects, of which many can be found here . The company published TRACER FACTS which became a widely used booklet of lesser known timber species. FSC certified timber and lesser known timber species remained the core business throughout the years. TRACER was nominated Børsen Gazelle in 2011. 

Status: TRACER was sold to Keflico A/S in 2018.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Denmark- Business Forum.

Type: Co-creation

Scope: In order to secure a long lasting and well founded economy for FSC Denmark the idea of a membership among a network of companies with common interest in the FSC market was founded and tested. The FSC Business Forum was established in 2001 partly taking over the role and responsibility of The WWF -Global Forest and Trade network-Skov 2000 in Denmark. Status: The Chairmanship of FSC DK was passed on to FDB in 2010. FSC Denmark is still today one of the most progressive member based National initiatives of the Forest Stewardship Council.

My name is Kasper Kopp and I founded EcoForce to congregate my work, current projects and a lifetime of experience, projects and initiatives..

I have a a background in forestry, international timber trade and International land ressource management and development. 

I am currently focused on rewilding. Developing rewilding projects, documenting the effects and turing this documentation into financing of rewilding projects. 

I am educated in Forest Management, FSC FM/CoC certification, Measurement- Reporting- and Verification (MRV) and Business management.
